Homes for the Orphans
Homes for the Orphans
Driving through the countryside, it’s not uncommon to see shanty towns —homes squeezed side by side that are made up of anything families can find, (such as scraps of rusty metal, old tires, cinder blocks, scraps of fabric, mud, etc).
There is a high rate of crime in these areas due to overcrowding, poor light at night, lack of security and inadequate parental supervision.
Architect Doug Sharp of West Des Moines, Iowa designed Abōd homes to replace these shanties. They only take a day to build with four laymen. Our first set of five homes were built in July, 2009. They house 16 orphaned children and a full time caretaker.
Orphan Sponsorship Program

UNAIDS reports that nearly 1,000 children are orphaned due to AIDS in South Africa each day. As you can see the need is great among South African children. In most cases they don’t know where their next meal will come from or where they will sleep tonight. At Blessman Ministries it is our desire to reach out to these children through our Orphan Sponsorship Program and forever change their lives. With the help of people like you, this program gives South African children a chance to grow up in a healthy, nurturing environment and to discover the love of Christ.
For as little as $45.00 a month you can support a child in the Blessman Ministries Orphan Care Village. With your sponsorship we will provide the child with food, housing, medical care, an education, life skills to give them sustainability, and a lasting knowledge of Jesus Christ. We will provide a caregiver that will be on-site to watch over the children and care for them. You will receive pictures and updates from your sponsored child and will have the opportunity to stay in contact with them through letters. You may have the desire to visit with your sponsored child through a Blessman Ministries trip to South Africa. If you would like to sponsor a child please fill out the Sponsor Form and mail it back to our Urbandale office.
