Del Cramer Children's Campus
Del Cramer Children's Campus is our flagship feeding center, run by our own staff and local volutneers. The center serves many capacities acting as a drop-in center after school for 50 children daily, a site for our US volunteer mission teams to minister to children, home to our computer learning center/internet cafe, the location of our 2nd Abod community providing homes to orphaned and vulnerable children & families from within the community, and is also home to our church, Lighthouse Christian Church. Lighthouse Christian Church serves over fifty adults and two hundred children each Sunday. Located in Sekgakgapeng, the Del Cramer Campus is just about a half hour drive from our Blessman International Campus at Shikwaur Game Lodge.
Social Responsibility and self-sustainability are the cornerstones for Del Cramer Children's Campus . This feeding center is able to provide fresh vegetables from our farming co-op and health protein through our chicken coops. In addition, we office two government social workers on site that assist in proper child development, aid, and tutoring. This model is the foundation of a promising future for the 50 children we see Monday-Friday and the 150-400 children we see at Lighthouse Christian Church. We hope to see this model replicated in the future at our network of feeding center's throughout South Africa.
Ratanang Sponsorship Program
UNAIDS reports that nearly 1,000 children are orphaned due to AIDS in South Africa each day. As you can see the need is great among South African children. In most cases they don't know where their next meal will come from or where they will sleep tonight. At Blessman International it is our desire to reach out to these children through the Ratanang Child Sponsorship Program and forever change their lives. With the help of people like you, this program gives South African children a chance to grow up in a healthy, nurturing environment and to discover the love of Christ.
Currently the children are feed primarily through rice packets provided in partnership with Meals from the Heartland and Convoy of Hope. This child sponsorship program in addition to our micro-enterprise endeavors, are being developed for self-sustaining measures and to replace the rice packets these hungry children are being feed with. Did you know it costs between $10,000 and $11,000 US dollars to ship a container of rice packets to South Africa? Our dream is to see food, care, and resources coming from within South Africa - from the very people we are ministering too. That takes first meeting immediate needs and second, transformation through training, education, and discipleship. It takes reaching a generation of orphans and vulnerable children before they grow stuck in a cycle of poverty.
For as little as $1 per day, you can support a child through Ratanang Child Sponsorship. Del Cramer Children's Campus is our pilot program to establish a model for all our other feeding programs in South Africa. With your sponsorship we will provide the child with food, education aid, medical support, clothes, shoes, glasses, life skills to give them sustainability, and a lasting knowledge of Jesus Christ. We ensure each child has a caregiver that will be on-site to watch over the children and care for them. You will receive a yearly sponsorship packet, monthly child highlights from BMI, an original piece of art work once a year, and updates from your sponsored child and the center. You may have the desire to visit with your sponsored child through a Blessman International trip to South Africa. If you would like to join the Ratanang Child Sponsorship Program, learn more and how to sign up here.
Abōd SheltersDriving through the countryside, it’s not uncommon to see shanty towns —homes squeezed side by side that are made up of anything families can find, (such as scraps of rusty metal, old tires, cinder blocks, scraps of fabric, mud, etc).
There is a high rate of crime in these areas due to overcrowding, poor light at night, lack of security and inadequate parental supervision.
Architect Doug Sharp of West Des Moines, Iowa designed Abōd homes to replace these shanties. They only take a day to build with four laymen. Our first set of five homes were built in July, 2009. They house 16 orphaned children and a full time caretaker. In 2013 we built an additional 2 Abōd Communities, with 5 homes each. One at Del Cramer Children's campus where we rent the units to women caregiver's and single mom's at a very low monthly rate. This community also has access to vegetables, chicken, and bread for discounted rates. The 3rd campus was built for seasonal staff for Blessman International and is located near the Thompson Campus and Leroy Blessman Lodge of Dreams.
